Water is life, and access to an adequate supply of clean drinking water is funda-mental to the quality of life for you and your family. We want you and yours to be Water-Wise in your water use. So, as a public service, pass-through links provide you with access to reliable web-sites and to products and services from other reputable providers to ensure that you get the quality and quantity of water you need with the least muss and fuss.
When it comes to drinking water supply, the worst thing you can do is use bottled water. This is because the energy con- sumed in the production and shipping of bottles is staggering, as is the per-gallon cost compared to filtered tap water, even using reverse osmosis. So even if the plastic bottles didn't leach toxic plasticizers, they are still clogging landfills with virtually nonbiodegradable refuse.
At the same time, we encourage you to find ways to cut back on water use by installing low-flow, restricting, or aerator faucets and shower heads or add-on devices, low-flush toilets, grey-water recycling, and rainwater capture for watering lawns, gardens, plants, and trees.
We also advocate composting of lawn, garden, and kitchen waste to recycle nutrients and reduce the use of water with your garbage disposal. Switch to plants that require less water to thrive in your climate & terrain (xeriscaping), and you will also help conserve water, especially in arid climates.
Please also consider switching to green products and services that minimize once-through water use and maximize water reuse. Such practices also reduce energy consumption.
These green lifestyle changes are an investment in a sustainable future that will pay dividends for you, your children, and future generations yet to be born, who will thank you for acting now to protect their future needs.
Conservation is a way of life. If you have not yet gone green, let us help you get started.
Next to fires, water damage from storms, floods, burst pipes, or slow leaks is just about the most destructive and disruptive experience for an owner or renter of a house or apartment. Water damage can occur anywhere at any time through no fault of your own. Roofs and window seals can leak during a driving rain. You can develop a slow leak in your drinking water purification system under the kitchen sink or fast leaks, also known as floods, when the return line on your toilet pops off or a poorly maintained hot water heater boils over three floors up in your apartment building. I know, because all of these happened to me in the last five years. That's why I added both leak and flood detection and water damage restoration to the list of services we promote. I don't want you to have to go through what I've been through. And avoiding leaks, whether minor or major, will conserve water, which is one of the things Waterwise Consulting is about. So install leak detectors around toilets, under kitchen sinks, and around water heaters and washing machines. From painful personal experience, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Electric power production consumes so much cooling water that energy conser-vation is water conservation one step removed. Studies by credible scientists indicate that water consumption for energy production will double by 2035.
To assist you in reducing your energy footprint, a home energy audit is a must. There are do-it-your-self options, as well as detailed audits by factory-trained technicians with the latest infrared radiation thermographic detection equipment that can spot heat leaks inside and outside your house or commercial building any time of the year. Be energy-wise, as well as water-wise, for a green, sustainable future.
We don't perform home or commercial energy audits, but we have provided a link to someone who does.
